Les humains sont souvent confrontés au problème d'essayer de donner un sens aux espaces de l'information complexe et aux mégadonnées. Nous nous retrouvons dans des situations où nous avons besoin d'aide pour réfléchir à des informations complexes que nous rencontrons. Les outils cognitifs peuvent nous aider à réfléchir dans ces situations, nous permettant de voir des schémas cachés.
En tant que tels, mes intérêts de recherche portent sur la façon dont les systèmes de visualisation de l'information peuvent aider les gens à voir des modèles d'informations/données qui pourraient autrement passer inaperçus. La visualisation de l'information, lorsqu'elle est développée de manière appropriée, peut être utilisée pour aider les gens à voir les données de manière innovante. Lorsque les interactions humains-données sont incorporées dans une visualisation, elles peuvent devenir un outil pour l’esprit encore plus puissant. Je m'intéresse à la recherche de façons d'utiliser ces outils pour aider les gens à gérer et à comprendre des espaces de l'information complexes.
Plus précisément, mon travail consiste à intégrer ces outils avec des méthodes issues de la bibliométrie et de la webométrie. Dans le passé, j'ai examiné comment ces outils peuvent être utilisés pour donner un sens aux débats de santé publique en ligne (p. ex. le débat sur les vaccins). Plus récemment, j'ai travaillé sur des projets bibliométriques comme le projet Meaningful Data Counts où nous étudions comment les chercheurs partagent et réutilisent les données de recherche.
